Securing an Installation & Maintenance Contractor License for Fire Safety Systems in Abu Dhabi

In addition to the above documents, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence outlines specific requirements for your company’s operations:

• Permanent Headquarters: You must maintain a permanent office within the Emirate and promptly notify the Civil Defence of any changes to your company address.
• Dedicated Workshop: A dedicated workshop space within Abu Dhabi that meets the technical requirements outlined by the Civil Defence for after-sales service of fire safety systems is mandatory. Address changes for the workshop must also be reported.
• Technical Staff Expertise: Your engineers and technicians must possess a thorough understanding of fire safety system installation, maintenance, international safety specifications, and preventive safety measures as outlined in the relevant manuals.
• Minimum Technical Staff Levels: The Civil Defence stipulates minimum staffing requirements for various categories of engineers and technicians (refer to Annex 2 of the regulations for details).
• Staff Qualification Options: Technical staff can qualify through various combinations of academic credentials and experience:
  • Technical diploma in a related field (2 years) with at least 2 years of experience in the specialty area.
  • General Secondary Education certificate (or equivalent) with at least 3 years of experience in the specialty area.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience if holding academic qualifications below General Secondary Education.
  • Competency Testing: All engineers and technicians must pass a competency and technical abilities test administered by the Civil Defence.
• Maintenance Contract Attestation: You are required to submit all signed maintenance contracts for fire safety systems within one week. These contracts should cover all related systems within a building or facility, unless the systems are separate. For buildings with shared fire protection systems, the maintenance contract should encompass the entire building.
• Exceptions for Maintenance Contracts: In specific situations, separate maintenance contracts for fire protection and prevention systems may be permitted. Additionally, maintenance contracts with authorized agents for specific systems are allowed, provided all contracts are submitted for review upon request by the Civil Defence.
• Semi-Annual Reporting: Twice a year, you must submit a detailed report to the Civil Defence outlining the sites where your company has performed installation and maintenance work. This report should include a comprehensive explanation of the completed projects.
